12/28/2015 loving boundariesIf you and your pup recently moved, it is not uncommon for your pup to develop separation anxiety. When working on independence training, it's helpful to use a confinement area, baby gate or crate, so that you can create a physical barrier to leverage other than your apartment door.
1/3/2015 BACK TO REALITYAs we get back to our post-holiday routines, your furry friend may have trouble adjusting to you being gone throughout the day. Here are some reminders of how you can help ease your pup back into your work schedule.
http://barkpost.com/solutions-for-separation-anxiety/… If you are using a confinement area for your pup, make sure there's an opening or doggy door that's always left open when they are out and about, so that he/she can access the wee wee pad even when hanging outside the pen or baby gate.
10/15/2014 Gone FISHIN'If your dog is an office pup, make sure that when left alone in your personal space, you put a "Do Not Disturb: Dog Resting" sign on your door. When startled while resting, dogs can react out of fear. Hence the saying "Let sleeping dogs lay."
10/11/2014 MEDITATING TO MOZART?If your pup exhibits some anxiety when you leave, try some meditation soundtracks to help him/her relax in your absence. Sometimes the tempo and crescendos of classical music can be less than relaxing, which explains why spa week features Reiki tones, and Mozart is more closely associated with waiting rooms in dentists' offices.
10/3/2014 IT GATES SENSE TO ME!When setting up your confinement area with a baby gate, leverage the lip in the door frame to make it impossible for the baby gate to get knocked loose. This way, you know your pup is safe no matter how excitable he/she may be.
6/28/2014 WIDE OPEN SPACES.... OR NOTI am a big fan of keeping crates and confinement areas as an integral part of your pup's routine throughout his or her life for practical and safety reasons, but here are some good rules of thumb if you're considering whether you should trust your pup with the run of your house.
