1/30/2016 raised on reading rainbowCheck out how audiobooks are helping shelter dogs. One of my favorite bonding activities with pups, especially during a snowstorm, is reading out loud. I always found that something about the cadence of our voices is soothing, and as I have been known to say: a mind is a terrier thing to waste!! 😜🎓📚

Perfect size to keep a serving of dog treats for when I'm on the go! Plus, there's no downside to upcycling

Perform an act of kindness while spending valuable QT with your pup. Ask an elderly neighbor or the woman down the hall who just welcomed a newborn baby whether their dog would like to join you and your pup on a walk or puppy playdate. If your pup has a mild temperament, consider getting him/her certified as a therapy dog or participate in volunteer activities such as Bideawee's U Reading to Dogs Program: http://www.bideawee.org/Volunteer-Now-Opportunities 1/21/2015 THE SPICE OF LIFECultivate wonder and excitement in your dog this year. Whether it's teaching your pup new tricks on a regular basis, inviting your pup to join you running errands in new dog-friendly environments like the Farmer's Market, Home Depot, and Macy's, taking your pup on daytrips to hike with you, or joining a doggie yoga class (spoiler alert: I look forward to offering these in 2015), do something new and exciting with your pup to keep him/her stimulated, curious, and spritely.
12/18/2014 PLAY ON PLAYERIf your pup finds himself/herself smack dab in the middle of a particularly nippy stage, use interactive toys or games to deliver treats during training. Not only will you add an additional step, delaying the reward and promoting impulse control, but you will also remove some of the excitement associated with your hands.
12/12/2014 UPCYCLINGCome Chanukah or Christmas morning, boxes make for wonderful toys for pups. Fill them with empty water bottles and dispersed toys and treats, and watch your furry friend play for hours! Just be mindful of keeping ribbons and tape away from your pup, as they can be hazardous if swallowed.
When cleaning your pup's Kong, fill it with water, plug both ends with the palms of your hands and shake it. Most of the food fragments will get flushed out, and any creamy left overs can be scraped out with the blunt end of a utensil.
11/6/2014 ADDING PUZZLE gameS to trainingNext time you are rewarding your pup for performing commands, try putting the treat in an interactive game vs feeding it out of your hand. This not only delays the reward, but expends mental energy and builds confidence.
