4/1/2016 I AM PUPPY, HEAR ME ROARPuppy growls don't always mean aggression. Watch for other cues with your pup's body language to find out whether your furry friend is being playful, blowing off some steam or truly uncomfortable. And remember: growls can be a puppy parent's best friend! They are your furry friend's way of asking for a little help ✌🐾🐶
1/1/2016 SOCIALIZATION FOR LIFEFor anyone who welcomed a furry companion into their home this holiday season, whether a puppy or more seasoned dog, this is worth a read. Socialization goes beyond the basics- mindful adventures not only help make your furry friend more dynamic, but if done mindfully, deepens trust, bonding, and contentment 🐶🐾💕
http://www.sacramentodogbehavior.com/puppysocialization.htm 1/19/2015 PLAYMATE OF THE YEARAs winter walks get cut short and trips to the dog park become less frequent, create more opportunities for you pup to socialize and engage with other furry pals. Invite over friends with dogs for a barky brunch, network within your building, or reach out to me, and I can suggest some dogs in your neighborhood who can help maintain your pup's socialization through playdates and help burn off some of that stored up energy.
11/30/2014 harold & maudE had the right ideaAs we enter cold winter months, identify a few playmates for your furry friends. Pairing a mature dog with a young pup is a great match. The young pup will learn to read social cues from his older counterpart, and the mature dog will get a great work out!
11/19/2014 it's your dog's prerogativeAs Bobbie Brown might agree, whether or not your pup engages or enjoys puppy play at a dog park should be every dog's prerogative. Whether your pup has had a traumatic event at a dog park or simply isn't a fan of them, don't push him/her to attend a dog park. Instead, consider alternate means of exercising, like dog jogging.
11/13/2014 PEANUT BUTTER SPA DAYIf your pup is still getting used to seeing other dogs during walks, single serve peanut butter containers are a great treat to leverage. Not only is peanut butter high value, but it is long-lasting and the licking motion helps relax your pup's jaw.
11/9/2014 RENEWING YOUR TRAINING VOWSTraining and socializing your pup is a life-long (and fun!) commitment. This article provides a wonderful perspective from an owner who reminds himself and us to always remain vigilant of our dogs' behaviors and body language, no matter how well trained they may be.
http://www.whole-dog-journal.com/…/Continual-Dog-Training_2… For those after my own heart who are sorry to see the 90+ degree weather slipping away, it is important to take your dog out in all conditions, so that he/she is used to rain, shine, snow or even it all during a single walk, which has been known to happen!
10/4/2014 WATching for signalsObedience training is not only a wonderful bonding experience, but helps you tune into your pup's body language. Watch for your pup as he/she juxtaposes relaxed looks (loose jaw, hanging tongue and floppy ears) with alert looks (alert eyes, pointing nose, mouth closed, jaw tense).
9/18/2014 SHELTER FROM THE STORMIt's always helpful to make note of pet-friendly establishments in your neighborhood, so that you can get out and about with your pet, even on the raniest or coldest of days. Most of the big box stores like Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond or Buy Buy Baby allow pets, and provide for some interesting socialization and desensitization opportunities!
